Ian Holroyd, owner and managing director of Shore Trips and Tours has a love of New Zealand that goes way beyond skin deep. He's created his life around it!
Moving to Tauranga, New Zealand from Britain in 2001, he quickly identified the lack of tours and sightseeing options available to cruise ship passengers. So starting off with a 1985 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit he brought with him from England, the business now has 16 driver/guides plus office staff and 24 tour vehicles. Not to be content with just Tauranga he then set up a network of like minded tour operators in all the other ports in New Zealand and Australia to offer Shore Trips and Tours unique brand of personalised, small group and fun tours that are now used by over 15000 passengers each year, an impressive achievement in 15 years.
On a personal note when he gets away from the office he enjoys spending time with his wife - Jacqui, travelling in Europe with their motorhome, riding his motorbikes, tinkering with vehicles and socialising with friends.
Whilst Kim manages the administration, accounting and social media for the business her role also encompasses sales, tour planning and operations.
Her love of travel and NZ tourism combined with a passion for providing great service keeps the day to day business operations flowing smoothly. With a strong background in accounting and administration she has worked in tourism from the backpacker industry through to corporate NZ business.
Whether it be sitting at her desk or behind the wheel of a vehicle she is happiest when others are happy. Not one to leave a road untravelled she knows New Zealand very well and loves to share her special places with others. She has also worked and lived in France and the UK, sailed the Greek Islands a few times, trekked overland through Morocco, temple hopped in Thailand and taken plenty of adventures through the States and Australia.
Outside of work and travel she loves music, wine and spending time with friends.
Nigel joined the Shore Trips team as Operations Manager in July 2016 - moving down from Auckland with his fiance Indie.
Having spent the past 8 years living in Auckland, and too many years to count in the tourism industry, Nigel moved to Tauranga to help manage our ever-growing operation. Most recently he was Product Manager for a nationwide bus company so there aren't too many places in New Zealand that he hasn't seen!
When he's not working you might see him on one of the cricket pitches around town, hacking away on a local golf course or entertaining friends around the BBQ. He loves to travel - hoping one day to visit all 7 continents...luckily Antarctica has already been ticked off the list!
Brian Dey - Tour Guide / Driver
I'm a lucky person! I've met so many delightful people who want to have a great day out. And that's my speciality!
I love reading about history, I have an extensive knowledge of Maoritanga and speak Maori, I have studied the animals and plants of New Zealand especially while tramping in the mountains and bush of our National Parks. When the last of our four children went off to University, my wife and I moved close to the sea where I found this wonderful job which allows me to share all of this knowledge especially with our overseas visitors. For a day, a brief moment in our lives, we laugh and share our experiences, as I introduce you to the special places in our area.
I work with a dedicated team which is totally focused on ensuring your time with us is memorable. I've been doing this for twelve years, and I love it!

Haere Mai (Welcome)
It's great to be a member of the Shore Trips and Tours team and working with other guides from various backgrounds all with the same goal of providing travellers with an enjoyable and informative time.
I have lived and worked in the Bay of Plenty area for forty years and have an extensive knowledge which will make your day interesting and fulfilling.
I started in the rural servicing business Wrightson NMA at Rotorua (New Zealand's Maori Cultural Centre) working with beef and sheep farmers; then moved to Te Puke (Kiwifruit capital of the world) in the role of Horticultural Supervisor. The last 20 years I have have been self employed in the real estate business selling homes in the suburbs of our beautiful north facing beaches at Mt Maunganui and Papamoa.
I thoroughly enjoy the tourism business and look forward to meeting you on your visit to our area. My aim is to give you a day that will be the highlight of your holiday, so come and test me soon.
Peter Gibbs - Tour Guide / Driver
Peter lives in the seaside suburb of Omokoroa just north of Tauranga.
Having spent his working life in the travel industry he is passionate about showing visitors the 'gems' that are found in the Bay of Plenty.
His travel started in the 1980's when he led overland tours from London out to Kathmandu through places like Iran and Afghanistan and he still takes a group or two overseas during the winter months. Despite having travelled to some far flung places like rural Nepal and Antarctica Peter is the first to admit there is no place like home. He will quite happily tell you that he is still to discover a country with the diversity and beauty of natural attractions that there are in New Zealand. Travelling makes us appreciate what we have here even more and that's why he is always excited to start a day on tour with Shore Trips and Tours and share his passion with visitors.
Christine Willoughby - Tour Guide / Driver
Now into my nineth year of tour guiding for Shore Trips and Tours I really love my job.
I have an educational background and degree, B. Ed, and still teach part-time in the primary sector. I have a passion for sharing information about our landscape, horticulture, agriculture, port, and local people with passengers who travel through to the various destinations in our region. I know where the special out of the way places are so my groups can experience something extra and unique about our country. My rural upbringing allows further insight into New Zealand daily life.
I enjoy travelling and exploring, having camped and seen most regions of our diverse country. This extra knowledge can be tapped into if you wish for ports of call further along your cruise. Alan and I have also experienced most of the major 'must do' activities in the cruise ship ports. If you have children travelling with you then allow me to assist you to make your day run as smoothly as possible.
Russell Gear - Tour Guide / Driver
I have been driving for Shore Trips and Tours for twelve years now. I am intensely proud of my country and like few things better than to show visitors around and talk about our lives, history, places of interest and legends.
I'm a semi-retired primary schoolteacher, poor golfer, catcher of huge fish, furniture restorer, slash and burn gardener and an armchair critic of nearly all sports (rugby in particular). My wife of 49 years is a Special Education teacher. We have three married daughters and six excellent grandchildren, one (Lucy) having been born on my birthday ten years ago.
Enjoy your stay in New Zealand and I look forward to having the opportunity of sharing our beautiful region with you.
Colin Berquist - Tour Guide / Driver
Driving for Shore Trips and Tours for the last twelve years I thoroughly enjoy sharing the many scenic wonders of the Tauranga region with cruiseship passengers.
I am a retired police officer having served 30 years in the Tauranga region. When I'm not driving I am a community volunteer for Police Youth at Risk programs, sports administration for local youth programs and have been awarded the Queens Service Award for community projects. My wife and I enjoy quality time with family and two years ago took our first cruise which we thoroughly enjoyed. We're doing a third one this year! Most days you can find me on the local Tauranga tour so please join me and I can share with you the hidden treasures of our region.
Terry Gradon - Tour Guide / Driver
Hi folks, this is my fifth year with Shore Trips and Tours and I'm no longer the new kid on the block. I have lived in the Bay of Plenty most of my life, 62 years to be exact, and as a result have a wealth of knowledge about the area, some of it useful and some just useless information. What I enjoy about the job is meeting people from all walks of life and different countries. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled and lived abroad where I met many new and interesting people. I am a proud Kiwi and enjoy showcasing our country to the passengers off the cruise ships.
I am married with children (seven to be exact) and a proud Grandpa of 8. I enjoy playing sport, some of it good and some so-so. My wife and I love the outdoors so go tramping and camping when possible and enjoy any challenge that comes our way. I look forward to each tour that comes my way and hope at the end of the day that you have had a great trip.
John Richmond - Tour Guide / Driver
My wife Carol and I moved to Tauranga in 2014 from Auckland where I'd been a tour guide since 2006, specialising in the Rotorua and Northland regions.
We are a blended family with five adult children and nine grand children. We have been avid travellers for many years and have more recently become committed cruisers having completed over two hundred (200) days cruising to various regions during the last seven years.
I have been driving for Shore Trips and Tours for 4 years now and am proud to be part of their dedicated team. I am looking forward to sharing with you the spectacular attractions, beautiful scenery and cultural history the region has to offer. It is always a pleasure to spend time with our overseas guests and join with you on your journey through our wonderful and unique country.

Married to Robyn I have two children and three grandchildren.
Apart from four years working and traveling overseas I have lived worked and played in Tauranga all my life. Farming. Fruit growing. Contracting. Property development and a big involvement in sport. I was a city councillor for six years and thoroughly enjoy working with people.

Keith Wratt - Tour Guide / Driver
I have lived in the Bay of Plenty for over 20 years farming and growing kiwifruit.
Heather (my wife) and I live near Te Puke which is the Kiwifruit Capital of the World. We have 3 married children and 8 grandchildren with whom we enjoy spending as much time as possible. We live on a small block of land where we breed and graze Dexter Cattle and Shropshire sheep. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, spending time with family, getting out and about, taking photos, collecting stamps and working on our land.
I joined the team at Shore Trips and Tours in 2015 to show visitors this lovely part of the world known as the Bay of Plenty / Rotorua area. There is so much to see here and it is my pleasure to be your driver and guide for a day out and show off some of what I love about this area. I look forward to meeting you soon.
Julie Knight-Yeoman - Tour Guide / Driver
Hi my name is Julie, I'm currently living the dream - working in the tourism & motor industries.
My husband Rob and I moved to the sunny Bay of Plenty in 2010 where I'm a proud young mum of 3 grown up children & 8 grandchildren. In my spare time I’m very happy spending time with family and friends and I love outdoor sports & motor sports.
I’ve been told on a number of occasions I’m very unique - you decide. I am very passionate about my work and feel privileged to be taking visitors around this wonderful country of ours. My favourite age to entertain is between 1 & 107 so I do like to keep my options open :)
Tourism has been a big part of my life for the last 16 years, starting out doing school runs, private charters then on to larger tours throughout New Zealand and Australia. Into my second year with Shore Trips and Tours I am enjoying the cruise industry and the diverse range of people I have the privilege to meet.
So I look forward to meeting you because I want to make you as happy as I can for the short time I have you, with a day you won’t forget.
Alistair Eagleson - Tour Guide / Driver
After living in different places in the North Island, 20 years ago the attraction of the climate, employment opportunities and the lifestyle available in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty were, and have continued to be, an irresistible attraction.
Now it is a privilege, as one of the team of tour guides and drivers at Shore Trips and Tours, to be able to spend time with visitors to the Bay of Plenty and share information about a unique part (Tauranga and Rotorua) of a wonderful country that we are so proud of. New Zealand is a special part of the world (we’re not biased, of course!!) and I enjoy meeting people and talking about what makes us different (and the same) to other places and people in the world.
I hope you enjoy your stay in the Port of Tauranga and, if I have the opportunity, I look forward to making your stopover an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Brian Holley - Tour Guide / Driver
It is a pleasure to be a tour guide/driver for Shore Trips and Tours and be able to guide you to some of the wonderful destinations in the Bay of Plenty.
My background has been in the rural farming sector with over 35 years managing large properties in the mid to upper North Island areas involving sheep, beef, deer and dairy operations. I have also developed and managed my own 4.5 hectare kiwi fruit orchard and a lifestyle subdivision in Northland.
Having previously lived in the Bay of Islands in Northland where I worked as a tour guide driver I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and sharing my experiences and knowledge with them. It is now exciting to be living in the beautiful Bay of Plenty and being able to share with you some of the unique and special places that make this place a top holiday destination.
Hope you have a wonderful stay and I look forward to meeting you.
Warren Carter - Tour Guide / Driver
I have lived in Tauranga for twenty plus years now and have a lifestyle block (piece of land in the country) up in the hills behind Tauranga where my wife and I have some avocado trees and citrus fruit. Prior to this I lived on the Coromandel Peninsula just north of the Bay of Plenty for 18 years, where my two sons grew up in a wonderful, relaxed environment.
My working career has been diverse from being a self employed road transport contractor with school bus runs / charter work and a general carrying business through to the last twenty years being responsible for the Tauranga City Council water treatment plant.
My interests include classic and hot rod cars and I am an active member of a local hotrod club. I enjoy overseas travel including the USA and around the Pacific basin, I am a very proud Kiwi and look forward to showcasing our region to you.
Jill Williams - Tour Guide / Driver [Bay of Islands]
I have been involved in tourism most of my working life with the majority of it being with Air New Zealand as a flight attendant on international routes for thirty five years. Now I have settled back in the Bay of Islands where my family are from and to actively retire. But there is just too much life in me yet and I can't keep still so when the opportunity to be a guide with Shore Trips and Tours came up I jumped at it with both feet!
I am a fifth generation New Zealander with a lot of knowledge about our history, flora, animal life and culture in this area. I am looking forward to sharing with you the many stories and sights of my beautiful home so you can take away amazing memories.
Hope to see you in my vehicle real soon.
Michael van Ellemeet - Tour Guide / Driver [Bay of Islands]
My origins are from Zeeland in the Netherlands.
I have lived and worked all over Europe, North Africa and Asia and been very fortunate to have experienced many cultures and environments.
After our children had 'flown the nest' together with my wife we embarked on a travel adventure which brought us to New Zealand. A country I worked and travelled around more than 40 years ago.
Presently we live in Whangaroa Harbour - the Jewel of the North, and I am blessed daily with beautiful nature, lovely people and peace. The nearest traffic lights are 120km (75 miles) southwards.....
My interests include NZ history & cultural heritage, sailing, gardens and presently I am studying Rongoa Maori in the local medicinal plants and native healing methods.
It will be my great honour to share the beauty and magic of the Bay of Islands with you and to leave you with unforgettable memories.
John Wright - Tour Guide / Driver [Wellington]
Welcome to "windy Wellington" the centre for the film industry, IT and central government in New Zealand.
Although I have lived all over New Zealand, 20 years of my working life were spent in Wellington, where my children grew up. I love its unique character and it is my pleasure to share with you this hilly, scenic and quirky little capital city.
Spending 10 years as a hiking guide and lodge host in Fiordland gave me an appreciation of the wilder parts of New Zealand. Last year was spent in the Bay of Plenty, where I first began working at Shore Trips & Tours, hosting people to the various highlights around the Tauranga/Rotorua area. I have always had a fascination with history, that of my own country and of the world. So anything you want to ask about New Zealand, its people, culture, government, wildlife, sport feel free to ask me.
As part of a nation-wide team of Shore Trips & Tours guides, I aim to make the Wellington port a memorable (in a good way) part of your overall cruise experience.
Graham Taylor - Tour Guide / Driver [Akaroa]
Hi there, my name is Graham and I am your tour guide for Akaroa.
My wife and I have lived in this unique, French historic village/town for 12 years and thoroughly enjoy it's ambiance and quaint charm.
Having been in the tourism industry for over 30 years with a number of accommodation businesses in different parts of New Zealand, it was the pull of the great outdoors and the majesty of the South Island scenery that drew us to Akaroa as a retirement dream. And we certainly made the right decision with the opportunity to indulge in my love of sports especially soccer, golf and yachting right on my back door step.
I look forward to welcoming you to my piece of paradise and showing you why the volcanic basin of Banks Peninsular and the City of Christchurch is a wonderful place to call home.
Brian Swift - Tour Guide / Driver [Dunedin]
Hi my name is Brian. Welcome to Dunedin the 'Edinburgh of the South' - Dunedin being the Gaelic name for Edinburgh.
I am fortunate to live on the iconic Otago Peninsula which is New Zealand's premier wildlife destination and steeped in New Zealand's early history as the 1st city in the 'new colony'.
I am Scots born, emigrating with my family in the 1960's. I have grown up as a New Zealander but a Scot at heart, married to a Kiwi lass with 3 daughters who have blessed us with 6 wonderful grandkids.
My passion is travel and through my previous work situations I have had the good fortune to cover most of South East Asia, China, Sri-Lanka and India. Personal travels have taken me back to Scotland, the USA and Australia.
My hobbies are reading, golf, bowls, photography, spending time with my family and travelling when I can.
I look forward to ensuring you have a memorable and fun day out in my beautiful slice of New Zealand.
So without further ado....
